So sánh hơn là một điểm ngữ pháp quan trọng nằm trong cấu trúc so sánh (còn có so sánh nhất, so sánh ngang bằng) của tiếng Anh, mà mọi người dù ở bất kì level cũng cần phải nắm rõ. 1. Định nghĩa so sánh hơn (comparison)
So sánh hai hay nhiều đối tượng với nhau dựa trên một hay một vài tiêu chí và trong đó có một bên nhỉnh hơn thì chúng ta sẽ sử dụng phép so sánh hơn.

Phân biệt giữa tính từ ngắn và tính từ dài
Tính từ ngắn là tính tứ chỉ có một âm tiết. (ví dụ: smart, dumb, fast, fat, slow, thin, thick, long, short, v.v).
Tính từ dài là tính có từ hai âm tiết trở lên. (ví dụ: stupid, beautiful, difficult, v.v).
Tuy nhiên chúng ta cũng có một vài trường hợp đặc biệt khác:
Với những tính từ dài có hai âm tiết nhưng tận cùng bằng -er, -le, -ow, -et, ta xem như là một tính từ ngắn. (ví dụ: clever ⇒ cleverer; simple ⇒ simpler; quiet ⇒ quieter).
Với những tính từ ngắn, nếu sau phụ âm là một nguyên âm thì ta gấp đôi phụ âm. (ví dụ: big ⇒ bigger, sad ⇒ sadder).
Với những tính từ và trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -y, ta chuyển -y thành -i rồi thêm đuôi -er hoặc -est. (ví dụ: early ⇒ earlier; dirty ⇒ dirtier).
Tuy nhiên, những trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -ly, ta cần dùng cấu trúc “more” hoặc “most”. (ví dụ: quick ⇒ more quickly; likely ⇒ more likely).
